Welcome Finn's Friends
Welcome to Kindergarten. On this website you will find information to help your child succeed in kindergarten. I am here to help all children reach their fullest potential in kindergarten.
Literacy - includes reading and writing
I teach reading through a balanced literacy approach. Areas of emphasis include reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Balanced literacy begins with creating a genuine appreciation for good literature. My favorite part of each day is when I share books with the students. Kindergarten is focused on teaching phonics, reading and comprehension strategies, and writing forms and skills.
Social Studies & Science
Our social studies and science curriculum is carefully integrated within our weekly themes. Each week is planned around a concept/theme, then I plan literacy, math and technology opportunities around this theme.

MathShelby City Schools has adopted Eureka Math as our math curriculum. Each day students will do several fluency activities, an application problem, then concept development (where new content is taught), and finally debrief (where students perform a task to show their understanding of the new concept). Then students will have a chance to practice these skills weekly during math centers.
TechnologyI love to integrate technology within my classroom. Students have the opportunity to work on typing skills on classroom desktop computers. They also work on iPads daily. I have selected many literacy apps along with a few math apps. OSMO's are also a part of our daily classroom. OSMO is a unique gaming accessory for the iPad that uses interactive manipulatives.
